How to make: A Dream Catcher

I promised Molly during the week that I would make her a dream catcher, after she had an upsetting nightmare, and came a-callin into my bed at 3am….. that was the end of my sleep for the night – try sleeping with an octopus!!!!

So with an embroidery hoop, twine and some bits and bobs I sat down to keep my promise yesterday.

      Here’s how it came together…

Materials used: one ring of an embroidery hoop, twine, felt, beads and glue (felt glue or copydex)

First I weaved the twine from side to side all the way around the hoop, threading on some decorative beads as you go.

(I used needle felt balls because I had them from a recent class, and I stitched them on after the twine frame was completed)

Using cookie cutters I drew little stars, hearts, flowers, flags and circles on scraps of felt, cut them out, and threaded them along three lengths of baker’s twine that I had draped from the base of the hoop, finishing the ends with little felt fishies that I glued together.

      The finished Dream Catcher

Little Miss went peacefully to bed lastnight to count sheep, reassured that her dreams are safe :)
